NASHVILLE, Tenn. | Jackson State battled back from a double-digit deficit midway through the first half before Vanderbilt used a late run to pull away for a 94-81 victory at Memorial Gymnasium on Saturday.
Shannon Grant led five players in double figures with a double-double finishing with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Marcus Watson Jr. added 16. Jayme Mitchell Jr. scored in double figures for the third straight game with 15, and Dorian McMillian scored in double figures for the second time with 13 points and six rebounds.
Jackson State finished the night shooting 39.7 (25-of-63) percent from the floor and 36.8 (7-of-19) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 80.0 (24-of-30) percent from the free throw line.
Vanderbilt (4-0) jumped out to an early lead and used a second-half run to build a double-digit lead over Jackson State before the Tigers fought their way back into the game. The Commodores finished the night shooting 52.4 (33-of-63) percent from the floor and 42.1 (16-of-38) percent from beyond the arc, while also shooting 70.6 (12-of-17) percent from the free throw line.
Jason Edwards led five players in double figures with 16 and Tyler Nickel added 15 for the Commodores. A.J. Hoggard added 13, Jaylen Carey 11 points and nine rebounds. and Devin McGlockton 10 for Vanderbilt.
