HIGH POINT, N.C. | Jackson State battled back from a double-digit first half deficit but fell short to High Point, falling 80-71 at Qubein Center on Saturday afternoon.
Jackson State (0-2) trailed by as many as 14 with 3:33 remaining in the first half before getting the deficit down to single digits in the second half outscoring High Point (2-0) by 11 points. The Tigers were able to outscore High Point 26-20 in the paint and also outscored them by five off the bench.
Romelle Mansel led Jackson State with 22 points and four rebounds, while
Jayme Mitchell Jr. added 18 off the bench with four three-pointers.
Dorian McMillian scored in double figures for the first time in his collegiate career finishing with 14 points and
Marcus Watson Jr. added 10.
D'Maurian Williams led four players in double figures for High Point with 22 points and six rebounds. As a team, High Point finished the night shooting 54.8 (23-of-42) percent from the floor and 41.7 (10-of-24) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 82.8 (24-of-29) percent from the free throw line.
Meanwhile, Jackson State finished the night shooting 42.6 (23-of-54) percent from the floor and 35.0 (7-of-20) from beyond the arc. They also shot 69.2 (18-of-26) percent from the free throw line.
