JONESBORO, Ark. | Shannon Grant recorded his second double-double of the season, leading three players in double figures as Jackson State fell late to Arkansas State 66-64 in non-conference action on Thursday night.
Grant finished the night with 16 points and 10 rebounds, connecting on 6-of-10 shots from the floor and adding a pair of blocks. Juan Reyna III scored 12 points off the bench with three three-pointers and Jayme Mitchell Jr. added 10 in the loss.
Taryn Todd led Arkansas State with 15 points, while Izaiyah Nelson added 14 and Avery Fells 11.
How It Happened
The game featured six lead changes with Arkansas State holding a 10-point lead early in the second half, and Jackson State grabbing its biggest lead of the night at nine midway through the first half.Â
Arkansas State built a 58-54 lead with 5:08 remaining in the game before Grant trimmed the deficit to two (58-56) with 4:17 remaining. The Arkansas State lead grew to 62-56 with 4:04 remaining before a three-pointer from Mitchell with 3:48 remaining to trim the lead to 62-59. Grant trimmed to just one at 62-61, with a layup with just 3:15 remaining.Â
The lead grew to five at 66-61 with1:51 remaining before Mitchell trimmed it to 66-64 with 1:21 remaining. The lead stayed that way with the Tigers having a chance to tie it with 47 seconds remaining and with less than a second remaining in the contest.

Jackson State finished the night shooting 38.2 (21-of-55) percent from the floor and 35.0 (7-for-20) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 62.5 (15-of-24) percent from the free throw line while also grabbing 41 rebounds.Â
Arkansas State finished the night shooting 33.3 (21-of-63) percent from the floor and 33.3 (10-of-30) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 70.0 (14-of-20) percent from the free throw line nd grabbed 45 rebounds while being forced into 15 turnovers.
Game Notes
- The Tigers started a different lineup on the night with Mitchell subbing in for McMillian at a guard position.
- The meeting between the two schools was the 15th all-time with Arkansas State leading 11-4. Jackson State was looking for its second consecutive win in the series after winning in Jonesboro last season.
