Johnson Records Double-Double in Tigers' 77-69 Win against MVSU

ITTA BENA, MS - Treyon Johnson recorded his first double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Jackson State men's hoops team past the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils 77-69 on the road Saturday at the R.W. Harrison HPER Complex.

Jordan O'Neal, who had 18 points and eight rebounds, led the Tigers (9-14, 5-5 SWAC), with three players scoring in double figures. Ken Evans tacked on 17 points, and Johnson chipped in as well with a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Led by Johnson's four offensive rebounds, Jackson State did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 18 boards that resulted in 30 second-chance points.

How It Happened

After falling behind 4-3, Jackson State went on a 6-0 run with 16:49 left in the first half to take a 9-4 lead. The Tigers then surrendered that lead and entered halftime down 36-34.

After intermission, Jackson State managed to gain control and had a 62-60 lead before going on a 7-0 run to grow the lead to 69-60 with 5:04 to go in the contest. The Delta Devils narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Tigers still cruised the rest of the way for the 77-69 win. Jackson State took care of business in the paint, recording 24 of its 43 points in the lane.
