COVINGTON, Ga.| The Jackson State Tigers broke through after a 2-2 tie in the fifth inning to take down the South Carolina Gamecocks 3-2 Friday.
Senior Victoria Salazar (2-0) started in the circle and picked up the win for Jackson State (4-0). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on four hits, allowing no walks and striking out two.
In the batter's box, the Tigers were paced by freshman Kaliyah Gibson, who went 2-for-4 on the day with an RBI. Sophomore Jace Jackson compiled a noteworthy effort as well, going 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 2-0, the Tigers first put runs on the board in the fifth inning. Jackson State managed to push across two runs in the inning.
The score stayed at 2-2 until the very next inning, when the Tigers put runs on the scoreboard once again. Jackson State pushed across a run on Jackson's two-out RBI double, which brought the score to 3-2 in favor of the Tigers. The score remained 3-2 for the rest of the game, as Jackson State held on for the win.
