JACKSON, Miss.| The Jackson State Tigers took a 2-0 lead in the first inning and never trailed from there on the way to a 10-1 win against the Florida A&M Rattlers on Friday afternoon to open the three-game SWAC series.
Victoria Salazar (9-3) got the win for Jackson State (17-7, ). The right-hander went five innings, giving up one run on six hits, allowing no walks and striking out one.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jackson State (17-7, 5-1 SWAC) got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the bottom of the first inning.
- JSU managed to push across two runs in the inning.
- The Rattlers then gained ground, narrowing the lead to 2-1 until the Tigers expanded their advantage in the third.
- The Jackson State offense exploded for seven runs, highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of sophomore Jace Jackson, which brought the score to 9-1 in favor of the Tigers.
- Jackson State held Florida A&M scoreless before expanding their lead to 10-1 the following inning.
- The score remained 10-1 for the rest of the game, as Jackson State coasted to the win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Jackson State's highest scoring inning was the third, when it pushed seven runs across.
- JSU took a 2-0 lead in the bottom half of the first and didn't surrender that lead for the remainder of the game.
- Samiyyah Huckabee and senior Jalia Hubbard stole two bases in Friday's game.
