Boler Scores 25 Points in Jackson State's Loss to UConn

STORRS, Conn.| Ti'lan Boler collected 25 points, but the Jackson State women's basketball team fell to the UConn Huskies 86-64 on the road Saturday afternoon in the 2024 NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament.

The Tigers had two players score in double figures, led by Boler, who had 25 points. Angel Jackson added 13 points and two blocks and Keshuna Luckett added six points and seven assists.

Led by Jackson's three offensive rebounds, Jackson State did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 14 boards that resulted in 10 second chance points.

The Jackson State defense caused its share of mistakes in Saturday's game, forcing 15 UConn turnovers. Those takeaways turned into 13 points on the offensive end of the floor. Hayleigh Breland led the way individually for the Tigers with two steals.

How It Happened

  • Jackson State struggled (26-7) out of the gate, falling behind 22-8 at the end of the first quarter.
  • The Tigers continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 49-28 halftime deficit.
  • UConn continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 69-45 advantage before Jackson State went on a 5-0 run, punctuated by a three from Andriana Avent, to trim its deficit to 69-50 with 24 seconds to go in the third.
  • The Huskies countered and stretched its lead to 72-50 heading into the fourth. Jackson State's bench made the most of its minutes in the period, as non-starters totaled nine of the team's 22 third-quarter points.
  • UConn kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing an 81-53 advantage before Jackson State went on a 6-0 run, finished off by Ti'Ian Boler's three, to shrink the deficit to 81-59 with 3:32 to go in the contest.
  • The Tigers were unable to cut further into the deficit by the end of the game, losing 86-64.
  • Jackson State fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down three shots to account for nine of its 14 points.
