HUNTSVILLE, Ala.| The Jackson State softball team was not able to score a run against Alabama A&M pitcher Cris'Deona Beasley on Friday despite recording six hits and were shut out 2-0 by the Bulldogs.
Victoria Salazar started and took the loss in the circle for Jackson State. The right-hander went six innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on seven hits, allowing one walk and striking out two.
At the plate, the Tigers were paced by junior M. Stephens, who went 1-for-2 on the day with two walks. Freshman G. Willis put together a standout performance as well, going 2-for-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jackson State (25-14, 12-6 SWAC) managed zero chances with runners on third in the shutout, going a total of 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position.
- The Tigers last got a runner on third in the fifth, when Stephens made it 60 feet away from scoring with two outs.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Jackson State's pitchers limited Alabama A&M to just 1-for-9 (.111) with runners in scoring position.
- JSU's pitchers also faced 29 Alabama A&M hitters in the game, allowing 11 ground balls and five fly balls while striking out two.
- Stephens led the Tigers at the plate, going 1-for-2.
- Alabama A&M was led offensively by junior K. Puckett, who went 3-for-3 with two doubles.
- Beasley led the Bulldogs pitching staff, throwing seven shutout innings.
