Grambling, La.| The Jackson State women's soccer team battled throughout but couldn't overcome early defensive pressure, falling 4–0 to Grambling State on Sunday afternoon at the GSU Soccer Complex.
How It Happened
Jackson State (6–6–2, 5–1–0 SWAC) defended well early but conceded in the sixth minute when Grambling's Liana Bryant converted a through ball from Kaylen Jankans to give the hosts a 1–0 lead.
Goalkeeper Taylor Osborn kept JSU in the match with four saves in the first 75 minutes before Valentina Goodloe entered and added two more stops in relief. Jackson State limited Grambling to six first-half shots and kept the deficit to one at the break.
Grambling capitalized, scoring twice in quick succession off of a penalty kick goal from Sophia Lezizidis at 67:50 and a strike from Taya Sands just 37 seconds later to make it 3–0.
Lezizidis added her second of the match in the 87th minute, assisted by Kennedy Farr, sealing the result.
