JSU Falls to Mississippi State on the Road

Starkville, Miss.| The Jackson State women's basketball team fell in a hard-fought battle to Mississippi State Thursday evening at Humphrey Coliseum. The final score was 82-55.

How It Happened
  • Jackson State (1-2) got off to a slow start trailing the Bulldogs 9-0.
  • Mississippi State (3-0) continued to increase the lead closing out the first quarter with a 22-5 edge over the Tigers.
  • JSU played Mississippi State even in the second quarter but continued to fall behind carrying a 41-24 into the half.
  • Derrica McCall caught fire in the third quarter, knocking down two threes and sparking a 10–4 run that energized JSU's bench.
  • The Tigers went on to generate 10 bench points in the frame by pushing the ball off defensive rebounds.
  • JSU also forced six turnovers in the third quarter and earned 13 points off those turnovers.
  • Rhema Pegues and Angel Wilkinson were able to generate some late offensive possessions, but it wasn't enough to give JSU the boost it needed.
  • Mississippi State closed out the matchup, 82-55.

  • Jackson State shot 23-for-64 (35.9 percent) from the field and 6-for-23 (26.1 percent) from the free throw line.
  • Derrica McCall led the Tigers in scoring with 12 points, three rebounds and two steals.
  • Mikayla Brown finished with nine rebounds, eight points and two blocks.
  • The Tigers finished with 30 points in the paint, 29 bench points, 16 second chance points and 13 points off 14 MSU turnovers.
  • Mississippi State shot 55.2 percent (32-for-58) from the field and 14-for-22 (63.6 percent) from the free throw line.
  • The Bulldogs had six players score in double figures led by Favour Nwaedozi who finished with a double-double 18 points and 15 points.
  • The Bulldogs finished with 52 points in the paint, 30 bench points, 26 points off 22 JSU turnovers, nine fastbreak points and five second chance points.
