Washington and Collins win weekly SWAC honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Jackson State defensive back B.J. Washington and punter Kye Collins were awarded weekly honors by the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) based on their performances in a 28-13 victory over Bethune-Cookman, announced on Monday afternoon by the conference office.

Washington finished the game with just three tackles and a pass break-up, but sealed the game with less than 30 seconds to play when he picked off a Wildcats' pass and ran it back 82 yards for the touchdown to earn SWAC co-Defensive Player of the Week honors. Meanwhile, Collins punted the ball four times, with three of those landing inside the 20-yard line. He averaged 37.5 per punt with a long of 41 on the day to earn SWAC Specialist of the Week.

Jackson State returns to action this week against Alcorn State at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, with the game broadcasted on ESPN+.
