FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. | Jackson State continues its road swing this week against its fourth nationally ranked team, facing No. 21/22 Arkansas on Friday night Bud Walton Arena.
The game tips at 7 p.m. on the SEC Network+.
This will be the 13th meeting between the two teams, but the first since 2002 when Arkansas won 81-44. The first meeting between the two schools came on Dec. 29, 1990 when Arkansas won 126-88 starting a streak of 12 consecutive wins in the series. Jayme Mitchell Jr. leads the team in scoring at 16.0 points per game after scoring 24 points against No. 22/25 Auburn on Wednesday night, just two points off of his career high. Meanwhile, Daeshun Ruffin is averaging 15.5 points and 3.3 assists per game and Dorian McMillian is averaging 11.3 points per game through the first four games.

- Ruffin was named the SWAC Impact Player of the Week for the first week of the season after he averaged 17.0 points per game in the two games of the season against No. 14/17 Illinois and No. 10/11 Louisville on the road.Â
- The Tigers return a pair of starters from last season in Ruffin and McMillian with McMillian earning Freshman of the Year honors last season. He returns as a Preseason Second-Team selection, while Ruffin returns as the top scorer in the conference and was named Preseason Player of the Year.
- Head coach Mo Williams will have two sons on the bench [at least at some point this season] with his son KyDarrius serving as a an assistant coach, while another of his sons - Mike - comes in as a highly-touted recruit from Gernantown High School.
- Tonight marks the fourth consecutive road game to open the season, and will be the fourth against a top 25 team after playing No. 17 Illinois, No. 11 Louisville, and No. 22 Auburn on the road to start the season.
- Tonight marks the second consecutive game against an SEC foe after falling to Auburn on Wednesday.
- Mitchell missed his career high in points by just two when he scored 24 points against Auburn on Wednesday, while Ebo Wilson equaled his career-high with eight rebounds.
- Jackson State has played without Jalen Tatum [missed two games], Keiveon Hunt [missed all four games], Dionjahe Thomas [missed all four games], Mike Williams, and Raevon Thomas [missed all four games].
- Mo Williams is no stranger to the SEC having played at Alabama for two years beginning in 2002. Williams averaged 10.4 points and 4.5 assists per game 2002. His play helped lead the Crimson Tide to a 27–8 record, including a 17–0 home record, and the SEC regular-season championship. After two seasons, Williams decided to forgo his final two years at Alabama and declare for the 2003 NBA draft.
- Jackson State will have traveled 4,202 miles round trip following the trip to Auburn in the first four games this season.
