CONWAY, S.C.| The Jackson State women's basketball team fell in a tough matchup against Coastal Carolina to open the CCU Tournament Friday afternoon. The Tigers lost 103-61.
How It Happened
- Jackson State got on the board first with a three-point basket from Rhema Pegues nine minutes and twenty seconds into the game.
- Coastal Carolina responded with a three-point jumper from Kristin Williams at the 8:30 mark.
- CCU went on an 8-0 run shortly after Williams' opening basket to create some space early in the matchup
- The Tigers closed in on the deficit after Mikayla Brown scored on a second chance jumper in the paint off a Coastal turnover bringing the score to 13-10.
- Another three from Pegues at 1:05 in the first quarter brought the Tigers within one point of the Chants.
- A made free throw gave CCU a two-point advantage 19-17 at the end of the first.
- The Tigers continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 51-29 halftime deficit.
- JSU's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Tigers faced an 80-44 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter.
- Jackson State could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 103-61.
