LOUISVILLE, Ky. | For the second time this week, Jackson State dropped a game against a top-20 program, falling to No. 10/11 Louisville 106-70 at the KFC Yum! Center on Thursday night despite three players in double figures.
Daeshun Ruffin scored in double figures for the second consecutive game, pacing the Tigers with 22 points while adding four assists. He finished the night shooting 8-of-20 from the floor including hitting three three-pointers, while Jayme Mitchell Jr. scored 20 points on 8-of-10 from the floor. Dorian McMillian added 18 points on 7-of-15 from the floor including four three-pointers.
Ryan Conwell led four players from Louisville (2-0) in double figures with 19 points and Mike Brown Jr. added 18 to lead the Cardinals. Khani Rooths recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, and Sananda Fru added 12.
Jackson State (0-2) shot 39.7 (25-of-63) percent from the floor and 40.7 (11-of-27) percent from beyond the arc. They also finished the night shooting 56.3 (9-of-16) percent from the free throw line. Meanwhile, Louisville finished the night shooting 52.2 (35-of-67) percent from the floor and 30.3 (10-of-33) percent from beyond the arc. They also finished the night shooting 74.3 (26-of-35) percent from the free throw line, while winning the rebounding battle 49-29.
Inside the Numbers
Jackson State started its second lineup in as many games against Louisville as Deyan Kolev made his first collegiate start.
The trio of Ruffin, Mitchell, and McMillian combined for 60 of the 70 points scored by the Tigers, connecting on 23-of-45 shots from the floor and 9-of-19 shots from beyond the arc. They also combined seven rebounds and seven assists on the night.
Jalen Tatum led Jackson State with six rebounds on the night including two of the teams seven offensive rebounds, while Ruffin led the team in both assists (four) and steals (two).
Louisville shot 53.1 (17-of-32) percent from the floor and 38.9 (7-of-18) percent from beyond the arc in the first half. They also shot 82.4 (14-of-17) percent from the free throw line. Jackson State finished the opening 20 minutes shooting 37.8 (14-of-37) percent from the floor and 42.9 (6-of-14) percent from beyond the arc. They also connected on of of just three free throws attempted in the opening half.
In the second half, the Tigers shot 42.3 (11-of-26) percent from the floor and 38.5 (5-of-13) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 61.5 (8-of-13) percent from the free throw line. Meanwhile, Louisville shot 51.4 (18-of-35) percent from the floor and just 20.0 (3-of-15) percent from beyond the arc. They also finished the second half shooting 66.7 (12-of-18) percent from the free throw line.
