Jackson State Blanks Alabama A&M 2–0 to Advance to SWAC Championship

Prairie View, Texas| Jackson State women's soccer continued its postseason surge Friday afternoon, shutting out Alabama A&M 2–0 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Semifinals at the PVAMU Soccer Complex.

Behind an early strike from Ryanne Hawthorn-Harper and another late insurance goal from the same forward, Jackson State (9–6–3, 6–1–1 SWAC) punched its ticket to Sunday's SWAC Championship match, marking the program's first title appearance since 2022.

How It Happened
Jackson State wasted no time setting the tone, taking the lead in the third minute when Hawthorn-Harper finished a sharp pass from Caylah Williams inside the box. The duo's early connection energized the Lady Tigers, who dominated possession throughout the opening half, outshooting the Bulldogs 8–3.

JSU's defense, anchored by Sarah Portis, Kianah Farmer, and Jaelyn Greer, kept Alabama A&M without a single shot on goal through 45 minutes. Goalkeeper Taylor Osborn made one late save in the second half to preserve the clean sheet her sixth of the season.

Alabama A&M goalkeeper Adriana Durango was busy all match, registering 11 saves, but Jackson State's persistent attack proved too much. The Lady Tigers added a second goal in the 89th minute, again from Hawthorn-Harper, this time assisted by Malayah Nuestro, sealing the 2–0 victory.

Jackson State struck early as Williams fed Hawthorn-Harper for a composed finish just three minutes in.

JSU's high press created several more chances, including shots from Kyla Gomez (12' and 31') and Zaniyah Gonzague (21'), all forcing stops from Durango.

A&M rarely threatened, managing only three attempts — none on target — as JSU held firm defensively and entered halftime up 1–0.

The Bulldogs tried to mount pressure early but struggled to penetrate the JSU back line. Osborn turned away a low shot from Amelia Barber in the 72nd minute, Alabama A&M's lone shot on goal.

Meanwhile, JSU continued to dictate tempo. Gomez, Day, and Williams each saw quality scoring opportunities, and Hawthorn-Harper's late strike at 88:41 secured the match.
