JSU Falls Short to Grambling State

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas| The Jackson State soccer team fell 2-1 to Grambling State in Sunday's SWAC championship matchup at the PVAMU Soccer Complex.

How it Happened

  • Grambling State took a 1-0 lead when Liana Bryant scored in the 14th minute.
  • GSU increased their lead to 2-0 on a goal from Chloe Bryant in the 67th minute, assisted by Nyla Dore-Anderson.
  • Jackson State narrowed the gap to 2-1 on Kaila Tablado's 85th-minute goal, her second of the season.
  • The 2-1 score held to the finish.

  • Taylor Osborn collected three saves for the JSU Tigers out of 10 total GSU shots.
  • Jackson State scored one unassisted goal.
  • JSU put just one shot on goal.
SWAC All-Tournament Team

Sarah Portis, Ryanne Hawthorn-Harper, and Caylah Williams were named to the SWAC All-Tournament team following the Tigers run. Portis continued to anchor JSU's backline that only gave up two goals throughout the tournament. Hawthorn-Harper gave JSU an early lead against Alabama A&M scoring just three minutes into the match. Caylah Williams held JSU's offense down scoring two goals against Alabama State and one against the Bulldogs.
