Tigers fall to TCU in final non-conference contest

FORT WORTH, Texas | Dorian McMillian recorded his first career double-double and was one of three players in double figures for Jackson State, but it wasn't enough as the Tigers fell 115-64 to TCU at the Ed and Rae Schollmaier Arena in the final non-conference game of the season on Monday night.

McMillian finished with 13 points 10 rebounds, a new career-high, for the Tigers before leaving the game with just under five minutes to play; while Daeshun Ruffin led the way with 21 points and six assists. They were joined in double figures by Jayme Mitchell Jr. with 13 points. The total by Ruffin is the 10th time he has been in double figures this season, and the sixth he has scored 20 or more in a game this season. 

Jackson State finished the night shooting 39.0 (23-of-59) percent from the floor and 38.1 (8-of-21) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 66.7 (10-of-15) percent from the free throw line. Meanwhile, TCU shot 65.2 (45-of-69) percent from the floor and 48.1 (13-of-27) percent from beyond the arc, while shooting 100.0 (12-of-12) percent from the free throw line.

David Punch led five players in double figures for TCU with 20 points.

Inside the Numbers
Jackson State shot 41.4 (12-of-29) percent from the floor and 46.2 (6-of-13) percent from beyond the arc, while also shooting 66.7 (2-of-3) percent from the free throw line. Meanwhile, TCU finished the first half shooting 55.6 (20-of-36) percent from the floor and 44.4 (8-of-18) percent from beyond the arc. They also finished the first half perfect from three throw line, hitting all seven of their shots.

TCU jumped out to a 10-0 lead before Jackson State could get going, however, the Tigers hit on five of their next six field goals to trim the lead to 16-12 on a Ruffin jumper with 12:19 to play in the half. The Horned Frogs were able to answer the run by the Tigers, extending the lead to 25-12 with 9:52 to play in the opening half with a 9-0 run. Devin Ree put an end to the run with a three-pointer, trimming the lead to 25-15 with 9:39 to play in the half.

The two teams traded baskets with TCU grabbing a 42-30 lead with just 3:46 to play in the half, with both teams hitting on  5-of-6 from the floor during the stretch. However, from there, the Horned Frogs pulled away for a 55-32 lead at the break.

In the second half, Jackson State shot 36.7 (11-of-30) percent from the floor and 25.0 (2-of-8) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 66.7 (8-of-12) percent from the free throw line. Meanwhile, TCU shot 75.8 (25-of-33) percent from the floor and 55.6 (5-of-9) percent from beyond the arc, while hitting on all five of its free throws.
