JACKSON, Miss. | Jackson State returns returns home for the first time in 43 days, opening Southwestern Athletic Conference [SWAC] play on Saturday afternoon against Alcorn State at the Lee. E. Williams AAC.

Jackson State, who was picked to finish third in the conference in the preseason, has won the last two meetings in the series - sweeping the series last season. The two teams have met 104 times since 1977 with Jackson State holding a 56-48 advantage during that time. The meeting on Saturday will be the seventh time that Jackson State head coach Mo Williams will face Alcorn State, holding a 4-2 advantage in the previous six. Daeshun Ruffin leads Jackson State in scoring at 18.0 points and 3.8 assists, with the three-time SWAC Impact Player of the Week scoring in double figures in 10 games this season. Meanwhile, Jayme Mitchell Jr. is averaging 13.2 points per game, and Dorian McMillian is averaging 10.5 points and 4.6 rebounds per game - earning SWAC Impact Player of the Week honors this week after his double-double at TCU.

- Ruffin poured in 36 points and dished out six assists, leaving him just one point shy of his career-high in points, and followed that up with 25 points against Norfolk State to give him 875 career points. He has scored in double figures nine of the 12 games he has played in this season.
- McMillian was named the SWAC Impact Player of the Week after his first career double-double [13 points / 10 rebounds at TCU].
- Head coach Mo Williams has two sons on the bench [at least at some point this season] with his son KyDarrius serving as a an assistant coach, while another of his sons - Mike - comes in as a highly-touted recruit from Germantown High School.
- Mitchell missed his career high in points by just two when he scored 24 points against Auburn [11.19.25], while Ebo Wilson equaled his career-high with eight rebounds.
- The home game against Winthrop [11.23.25] was the first non-conference home game in six years, and the Tigers will be returning home for the first time in 43 days when they take the floor against Alcorn State.
- Jackson State held Louisiana [11.28.25] to 45 points, the lowest point total an opponent has scored since Mississippi Valley State [Feb. 8] was held to 44 in Jackson State win in the lone win of the 2025 season.
- The game at Houston [seventh] marked the fifth game against a nationally-ranked opponent after Jackson State has faced [ranked at the time] Illinois [17th], Louisville [11th], Auburn [20th], and Arkansas [14th] so far this season. That is the most ranked teams played in the conference. They have also played the second-toughest schedule in the country according to multiple sources.
- Mike Williams had a career game against Kennesaw State [12.2.25] finishing with a career-high 12 points, earning his first start on the road against Houston. However, he was injured against Hampton [12.18.25], and has not returned to the lineup.
- Jackson State was picked to finish third in the conference in the preseason behind Bethune-Cookman and Southern. Last season, the Tigers finished 14-4 in the regular season - finishing second - before falling in the SWAC Championship Game.
- Jackson State has started 12 different lineups in its first 13 games this season.
