OPENING KICK
- Jackson State will appear in its ninth conference championship game this weekend, second only to Grambling State [10], and are 4-4 in those games. Today marks the fourth time the game will be hosted by the Tigers in the last five years, with Jackson State winning the first previous three contests.
- Saturday's meeting with Prairie View A&M is the second time the two teams will meet in the conference championship game, with Jackson State winning the only other meeting 27-10 in 2021.
- Jackson State had three running backs go over 100 yards on the ground against Bethune-Cookman on Saturday - the most in one game for the Tigers. It is the third time this season that the Tigers have had at least two players top 100 yards in the same game.
- The Tigers have won 11 consecutive games at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium - a streak that has spanned over the last two years. The last time Jackson State dropped a game at home came against Alcorn State [28-24] in 2023.Â
- Since the fall of 2021, Jackson State has won 60 of 71 games overall and are 36-4 in regular season games against conference competition. The Tigers have won three Southwestern Athletic Conference [SWAC] championships, played in three Celebrration Bowls, and won the 2024 HBCU national championship.
- Jackson State had its streak of 13 consecutive wins against SWAC opponents and 14 consecutive games against FCS competition snapped in the loss to Grambling State, the only FCS team to have beat Jackson State in the last two years.
- The Tigers have had four different players rush for over 100 yards this season [Ahmad Miller, JaCobian Morgan, Donerio Davenport and Travis Terrell Jr.]. The Tigers have rushed for over 200 yards in eight games this season, all wins, while in the three games they have failed to reach that mark they are 1-2 on the season.
- Jackson State went over two years without an interception return for a touchdown following Travis Hunter accomplishing the feat in 2022 against Alcorn State. The Tigers have had two in the last two weeks with Mike Smith III returning one 60 yards against Mississippi Valley State [11/8/25] and B.J. Washington returning one 82 yards against Bethune-Cookman [11/15/2025], the first defensive touchdowns since a fumble recovery against Florida A&M last season.
TIGERS JOIN ELITE COMPANY WITH 100-YARD RUSHERS
Jackson State has recorded three games this season with at least two players with over 100 yards rushing, joining 11 other schools at the FCS level. However, although there are 11 others schools, Jackson State is the only one who has done it more than one time. The Tigers accomplished that feat against Alabama A&M [Oct. 4], Florida A&M [Nov. 1], and Bethune-Cookman [Nov. 15]. There is only one other HBCU on the list, North Carolina Central who did it against North Carolina A&T [Sept. 20].
Jackson State is one of four schools this season to have had three different players go over 100 yards in the same game, joining Chattanooga, Sacramento State and UT Martin. Dating back to 2013, there have been 10 schools who have had three different players rush for 100 yards in the same game [Jacksonville State [twice], 2013; Cal Poly, 2015; McNeese State, 2015; The Citadel, 2015; Fordham [twice], 2016, Davidson, 2018; Jacksonville State, 2023; Chattanooga, 2025; Sacramento State, 2025; UT-Martin, 2025; Jackson State, 2025].
TIGERS APPEAR IN NINTH CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
Jackson State will appear in its ninth Southwestern Athletic Conference [SWAC] championship game this weekend, the second-most all-time in conference history. Meanwhile, Alabama A&M [seven] and Alcorn State [six] have more than four appearances in the game.Jackson State is 4-4 in its previous eight appearances with wins in 1999, 2007, 2008, 2012, 2013, 2021, 2022, and 2024.
