HOUSTON, Texas | Jackson State used a three-run fifth inning to take the lead over Texas Southern and pulled away for a 7-3 victory in its final game of the Cactus Jack Classic at Daikin Field on Sunday night.

Jackson State (2-1) trailed 3-2 heading into the fifth inning before taking the lead on a three-run home run by Joseph Eichelberger to left to take a 5-3 lead over the Tigers. They would add two more in the sixth inning on a pair of wild pitches to pull away for the win.

The Tigers pounded out 12 hits in the win with four players picking up multiple hits including Eichelberger who finished 2-for-4 with a run scored and three RBI. Wilbert Perez picked up his first multi-hit game as a Tiger finishing 3-for-4 with a run scored while Jordan McCladdie finished 2-for-5 with a run scored, and Pierre Cabral finished 3-for-4 with an RBI.

Stevins Spurgeon Jr. (1-0) was credited with the win after working 2.2 innings in relief and allowing one hit and striking out five. He came in on relief of starter JeAndrick Lourens who went 3.1 and CJ Lewis who went 1.0 inning of scoreless relief. Shemar Harris and Nkosi Didder combined to allow just two hits over the final two innings to secure the win.

• 2nd inning - Evan Joubert doubled to left field (2 RBI); Jaden Flores scored; Jesse Herrera lll scored. Kelton Phillips reached on an error by p, bunt, advanced to second; Joubert scored (unearned), Texas Southern 3-1.
• 3rd inning - Cabral singled to center field (RBI); Ledy Alvarez scored, Texas Southern 3-2.
• 5th inning - Eichelberger homered to left field (3 RBI); Alvarez scored; McCladdie scored, Jackson State 4-3.
• 6th inning - Eichelberger advanced to second; Alvarez advanced to third; Anthony Brown scored on a wild pitch. Eichelberger advanced to third; Alvarez scored on a wild pitch, Jackson State 7-3.
