Gonzalez Dominant for Jackson State in Shutout win Against Arlington Baptist

JACKSON, Miss.| Sofia Gonzalez tossed a two-hit shutout to lead the Jackson State softball team past Arlington Baptist 11-0 in game one of the River City Classic.

Gonzalez (1-0) went the distance for Jackson State, only giving up two hits, walking one and striking out three.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • JSU (1-0) took the lead for good in the first, scoring for the first time in the inning.
  • Jackson State's offense started clicking and put up five runs, including a two-run error off the bat of freshman Jace Jackson.
  • The Tigers also added runs in the second, third, and fourth innings on the way to the 11-0 victory.

  • Meah Almaraz had three base knocks in the game for Jackson State.
  • The Tigers power output was led by Almaraz, who picked up two extra base hits in the ballgame.
  • Jace Jackson drove in four runs for Jackson State.
  • Jackson State's highest scoring inning was the first, when it pushed five runs across.
  • JSU took a 5-0 lead in the bottom half of the first and didn't surrender that lead for the remainder of the game.
