JACKSON, Miss. | Jackson State closes out the home portion of its schedule on Monday night against Prairie View A&M in front of a national audience inside the Lee E. Williams AAC.

The is scheduled for an 8 p.m. tip-off on ESPNU.

Jackson State (11-17, 11-4 SWAC) sits two games back of Southern (18-10, 13-2 SWAC) with three conference games remaining, and also are a game ahead of Bethune-Cookman (14-15, 11-5 SWAC). There are three teams at 10-6 in the conference with the season winding down this week before the Southwestern Athletic Conference Tournament (SWAC) starts in Atlanta on March 11.

The Tigers have four players averaging double figures and are led by Daeshun Ruffin at 14.9 points per game after scoring in double figures in 16 of the 18 games he has played this season. He is shooting 36.8 (84-of-228) percent from the floor and 26.3 (20-of-76) percent from beyond the arc, while also shooting 85.1 (80-of-94) percent from the free throw line and dishing out 4.2 assists per game. Jayme Mitchell Jr. is averaging 10.7 points and 3.7 rebounds per game while shooting 36.4 (79-of-217) percent from the floor and 35.8 (49-of-137) percent from beyond the arc.

Dorian McMillian is averaging 10.6 points and 4.2 rebounds per game while shooting 42.0 (105-of-250) percent from the floor and 37.8 (45-of-119) percent from beyond the arc, and Shannon Grant is averaging 10.1 points and 4.9 rebounds per game while shooting 61.5 (112-of-182) percent from the floor.

Romelle Mansel is averaging 9.6 points per game and 6.9 rebounds for the Tigers after his double-double against Texas Southern.

Game Notes

  • Over the last six games, Grant is averaging 17.0 points per game and is shooting 79.6 (43-of-54) percent from the floor in helping Jackson State to a 5-1 record over that span and earned a pair of National Player of the Week awards last week.
  • Ruffin has scored in double figures in 16 of the 18 games he has played in this season, including 14 of 16 conference games. Against Alcorn State, Ruffin scored just 10 points, the junior guard grabbed a career-high nine rebounds and dished out five assists. He also shot 50.0 (3-of-6) percent from the floor and was perfect from the free throw line (4-of-4). 
  • When Mitchell scores in double figures in conference play, the Tigers are 4-2 after Saturday's performance against Texas Southern. The redshirt sophomore scored 19 points for the second consecutive time against Texas Southern this season.
  • A trio of Jackson State freshmen have combined to score 418 points, led by McMillian (298). The trio have combined to score 21.6 of the Tigers' points this season.
