Box Score JACKSON, Miss.| The Jackson State softball team opened its three-game series against Alabama State with a 9-4 win at the JSU Softball Field Friday evening. The Tigers never trailed in the match up despite ASU closing in on the deficit.

- Jackson State (15-9, 5-1 SWAC) got an early lead scoring three runs in the first inning.
- Ka'Liyah Gipson led off for JSU by hitting a single to left field.
- Jace Jackson came to the plate and singled to center field for a two-run RBI.
- JSU closed the inning with a 3-0 lead capped by s sacrifice fly from Gabby Willis the brought Jackson home.
- Alabama State rallied with two outs to put its first run on the board with an RBI single from Ayana Frank.
- Jackson State took a 5-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning before the Hornets attempted a comeback in the top of the fifth.
- After two hits and three runs, Alabama State narrowed its deficit to only trail JSU 5-4.
