OXFORD, Miss. | Jackson State dropped its only midweek contest of the week on Tuesday afternoon, falling to No. 9 Ole Miss 18-7 at Swayze Field in non-conference action.

Ole Miss (22-6) jumped ahead early with a first-inning grand slam Judd Itermark for a 4-0 lead after Jackson State was able to get a pair of runners on in the top half of the inning on hits by Jordan McCladdie and Joseph Eichelberger. The Rebels threatened again in the second when they loaded the bases before Nkosi Didder was able to get out of the inning with a strikeout and a fly ball to center. However, Ole Miss was able to get on the board with one in the fourth and seven in the fifth before Jackson State (16-11) was able to get on the board with seven runs of its own in the top of the sixth inning.

Eichelberger and McCladdie combined for six of the 10 Jackson State hits, with Eichelberger finishing 4-for-4 with a double and three RBI. McCladdie finished 2-for-4 with a run scored.

JeAndrick Lourens (0-2) suffered the loss in the start, working 0.2 innings and allowing four runs on four hits before giving way to Didder. The sophomore, the second of six pitchers, came in for 1.1 innings without allowing a hit with two strikeouts. Carson Foster came out of the bullpen to work 2.0 innings allowing three runs on a pair of hits, and Tyshon Patty made his debut on the mound out of the bullpen in the sixth inning.
