Allen collects 5 RBIs in Jackson State's 10-2 Victory Against Alabama State, Tigers Fall in Game Three

GAME 1 | Jackson State 10, Alabama State 2

MONTGOMERY, Ala.| Beija Allen collected five RBIs to help propel the Jackson State Tigers past the Alabama State Hornets 10-2 in game one of the Tigers doubleheader on Saturday.

Jorgina Gant (6-5) started in the circle and picked up the win for Jackson State. The right-hander went five innings, giving up two runs, zero earned, on three hits, allowing no walks and striking out two.

Allen went 2-for-3 with a double in addition to her five RBIs for the Tigers. Meah Almaraz put together a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-3 with a double and four RBI. Julie Lopez also chipped in for Jackson State, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Tigers got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with two runs in the top of the first inning.
  • Jackson State scored twice on a two-run double off the bat of Allen.
  • The Hornets then gained ground, narrowing the lead to 2-1 until the Tigers expanded their advantage in the third.
  • The Jackson State offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by a three-run double off the bat of Almaraz, which brought the score to 6-1 in favor of the Tigers.

MONTGOMERY, Ala.| The Jackson State Tigers struggled on Saturday, falling to the Alabama State Hornets by final score of 5-1.

Madison McDowell (0-3) started and took the loss in the circle for Jackson State.

Offensively, the Tigers were led by Jace Jackson, who went 1-for-3 on the day with a triple and an RBI. Ka'Liyah Gipson compiled a noteworthy effort as well, going 2-for-3 with a double.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Trailing 3-0, Jackson State (20-20,10-7 SWAC) first put runs on the board in the fourth inning.
  • Jackson State scratched across a run off Kaitlyn Hill when Jackson tripled scorinng Gipson.
  • The Tigers were unable to get any closer, as Alabama State added two runs to their tally on the way to a 5-1 final.
