RUSTON, La.| The Jackson State volleyball team pushed Louisiana Tech to the brink Thursday night inside Thomas Assembly Center, but the Tigers came up short in a five-set thriller, 25–23, 25–23, 16–25, 13–25, 15–13.
How It Happened
Jackson State (0–6) dropped the opening two sets by narrow margins before roaring back with a dominant stretch of play. The Tigers hit a combined .413 across sets three and four, storming to 25–16 and 25–13 victories to force a decisive fifth frame.
In the final set, the teams traded points in a back-and-forth battle that featured eight ties. Louisiana Tech (4–4) managed to hold off a late JSU push and sealed the match, 15–13.
After dropping two competitive sets, JSU caught fire in the third and fourth frames, combining for 31 kills while holding LA Tech to .059 hitting. The comeback forced a decisive fifth set, where both teams battled to the wire
Inside the Numbers
- Hope Briggs finished with a team-high 18 kills, hitting .308 with three blocks (19.5 points).
- Jayden James registered 12 kills, 10 digs, two aces for 15 points.
- Cierra Gilbert had five kills and seven total blocks in the match.
- Karys Dove recorded 19 assists and eight digs.
- Naija Gadis added 20 more assists.
