SUWANEE, Ga. | JD Berndt recorded his first top-10 finish in his career leading Jackson State to a seventh-place finish at the 40th annual Thomas W. Dortch Jr. HBCU Collegiate Invitational on Tuesday.
Berndt shot a 4-over (75) in the opening round of place before coming back with a 2-over (73) in the second round to finish in a tie for eighth place at 6-over (148). Berndt finished the tournament with nine birdies (four in the second round) and 14 pars (eight in the second round). Meanwhile, Ekam Singh finished tied for 16th with a 9-over (151) with a final round 74, finishing with three birdies and 11 pars in the final round.
Trace Carpenter finished just outside the top-20 with an 11-over (153), followed by Edward Wallace at 16-over (158), and Kaden Tibbetts at 19-over (161).

TOURNAMENT NOTES
- Tigers tied for the sixth-best round of the tournament with 299 on Tuesday in the second round, the only six rounds under 300.
- Berndt shot a team-low round of 73 in the second round, while Singh shot a 74 in the second round.
- Berndt and Singh were both in the top-10 at one point in the second round until Singh dropped to a tie for 16th just three shots out of the top 10.
- Jackson State had four rounds of 75 or better during the week.
- The Tigers finished just one shot out of fifth place (609).
