Daytona Beach, Fla.| Jackson State volleyball earned its second consecutive Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) victory Sunday afternoon, sweeping Bethune-Cookman 3–0 (25–20, 25–19, 25–21) at Richard V. Moore Gymnasium.
Jackson State (3–9, 2–0 SWAC) was efficient on offense, hitting .286 as a team with 47 kills across three sets. Jayden James led the way with a match-high 20 kills on .342 hitting, adding seven digs and two service aces for 22 total points. Hope Briggs chipped in 12 kills at a .333 clip, while Katejion Robinson provided six kills on .364 hitting.
Setters Karys Dove (23 assists, 11 digs) and Naija Gadis (18 assists, 5 digs, 2 aces) orchestrated the balanced attack, while Kymorah Carter anchored the back row with nine digs. Jackson State also produced six service aces, with James, Dove, and Gadis each tallying two.
Bethune-Cookman (4–10, 1–1 SWAC) countered with 32 kills and 10 team blocks, led by Sierra Herndon (7 kills, 5 blocks) and Kaleigh Williams (4 kills, 4 blocks). The Wildcats hit .172 overall and struggled to maintain consistency against JSU's offensive rhythm.
How It Happened
- The teams traded points early in the first set before JSU pulled ahead 19–13 behind kills from James and Briggs.
- BCU rallied late with two service aces by Williams, but back-to-back kills from Briggs sealed the opening frame.
- Nine ties defined the second set, but JSU pulled away after consecutive kills from James and a service ace from Dove.
- Briggs added four kills in the frame as the Tigers closed on a 6–2 run.
- Jackson State built a 17–12 lead in the third set on Robinson's kills and Gadis' serving run.
- Bethune-Cookman closed within 22–20, but James tallied her 20th kill to set up match point, and Briggs finished it with a cross-court attack.
