JACKSONVILLE, Ala.| Jackson State struck first but could not hold on, falling 2–1 to Jacksonville State on Sunday afternoon at the JAX State Soccer Complex.
Jackson State (1–5–1) opened the scoring in the 22nd minute when Ryanne Hawthorn-Harper buried her first goal of the season, assisted by
Malayah Nuestro. The Tigers carried that 1–0 lead into halftime behind a strong defensive effort and three early saves from goalkeeper
Taylor Osborn.
Jacksonville State (4–2–2) equalized in the 56th minute off a goal from Amelia Jacobs and a double assist from Louise Featherstone and Raegan Whitaker. The Gamecocks then netted the game-winner in the 81st minute when Alessia Donia scored her first career goal.
