Jackson State Dominates Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 6-0, for Fourth Consecutive SWAC Victory

PINE BLUFF, Ark. | Jackson State women's soccer delivered a commanding performance, shutting out Arkansas-Pine Bluff 6-0 at Pumphrey Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers erupted for five first-half goals before adding another in the second half to secure a decisive Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) victory.

With the win, Jackson State improved to 6-6 overall and 3-0 in conference play, continuing its perfect start to SWAC competition.

JSU wasted little time establishing control, as Elon Sheffield opened the scoring in the sixth minute, finishing a pass from Cora Kmiec to give the Tigers an early 1-0 advantage.

Malayah Nuestro doubled the lead in the 19th minute, converting an assist from Karime Antonio-Lopez to put Jackson State firmly in control. The Tigers continued to apply pressure throughout the opening half, with Sarah Portis finding the back of the net in the 39th minute off an assist from Maeve Morris.

The Tigers closed the first half in emphatic fashion, scoring twice in the final two minutes. Mia Ortega extended the advantage in the 44th minute before Kianah Farmer added another goal just before halftime, sending the Tigers into the break with a commanding 5-0 lead.

Jackson State carried that momentum into the second half. Makayla Sturkey capped the scoring in the 55th minute, pushing Jackson State's advantage to 6-0 and putting the finishing touches on an impressive offensive display.

JSU's attack proved relentless throughout the contest, outshooting Arkansas-Pine Bluff 27-3 and recording 11 shots on goal. The Tigers also generated seven corner kicks, consistently keeping pressure on the Golden Lions' defense.

Defensively, Jackson State was equally impressive. Goalkeeper Taylor Osborn recorded three saves to earn the shutout, while the Tigers limited Arkansas-Pine Bluff to just three total shots and prevented the home side from finding the scoreboard.

The balanced offensive effort featured six different goal scorers, highlighting Jackson State's depth and ability to generate scoring opportunities from multiple positions. Sheffield, Nuestro, Portis, Ortega, Farmer and Sturkey each contributed a goal in the victory, while Antonio-Lopez, Kmiec and Morris recorded assists.
