OPENING KICK
- This will be just the second trip to Daytona Beach (Fla.) for Jackson State in the series history, having last played there in 2024. In that game, Bethune-Cookman controlled the first half before Jackson State was able to come back for a 37-17 victory.
- B.J. Washington recorded a pair of interceptions last week against Florida A&M, including one on the opening possession of the game that gave Jackson State a short field and a quick 7-0 lead. The fifth-year defensive back intercepted a pass late against Bethune-Cookman and returned it for a touchdown to seal the game.
- Freshman Mikey Johnson recorded his first career interception against Florida A&M. If the name sounds familiar, he is the son of Jackson State head men's basketball coach Trey Johnson.
- Jackson State has yet again come up with a three-headed monster in the backfield to complement last season's running back. The trio of Nate Blount IV [562], Li'Darius Pryor [350], and Emari Matthews [219] have rushed for 1,131 yards this season [60.8 percent of the yards put up the Tigers]. With Blount out two weeks ago against Grambling State, Pryor ran for 166 yards on 22 carries and added three touchdowns - all career highs for the freshman.
- It took only seven games for Jackson State to lose its first fumble of the season on its final third-quarter possession. The Tigers went nearly 27 quarters before losing a fumble. In the same game, the Tigers' Jared Lockhart threw his first interception of the season in the fourth quarter of the game, nearly 28 quarters without an interception.
- Since the fall of 2021, Jackson State has won 66 of 78 games overall and is 39-5 in regular-season games against conference competition. The Tigers have won three Southwestern Athletic Conference [SWAC] championships, played in three Celebration Bowls, and won the 2024 HBCU national championship.
- Jackson State is 17-3 at home under head coach T.C. Taylor since taking the helm in 2023, including a 6-0 mark in 2024. The Tigers also went 5-1 at home last season, with their lone loss coming in the SWAC Championship game, ending an 11-game home winning streak. The Tigers have not lost a non-conference home game under Taylor.
- With four games remaining in the conference season, Jackson State is tied with Alabama A&M atop the standings in the SWAC East Division, and is 1/2 game ahead of Bethune-Cookman.
