HATTIESBURG, Miss. | The Tigers fell to the Southern Miss Golden Eagles in a close 4-3 decision on the road on Friday afternoon.
Jackson State (1-7) overcame a tough start to the day after losing the doubles point as they put together three wins in singles competition and extended four of their six matches into three sets.
Tiara Alvarez earned the first point for the Tigers, cruising to a 6-3, 6-2 victory at number six. After falling 5-7 in the first set,
Mariia Iordanova rallied to defeat her opponent with a 6-3, 6-2 finish. The final point for the Tigers came from
Helen Hernandez, who defeated her opponent in a three-set decision at number five, 2-6, 6-4, 6-1.
