VERO BEACH, Fla. | Hederick Torres gave Jackson State its first lead of the game with a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth inning and the Tigers held on for a 3-2 victory in the opening game of the Andre Dawson Classic at the Jackie Robinson Training Center on Friday.
Trailing Texas Southern 2-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Torres hit a two-strrike pitch through the left side to score Tyree Reed and Edwin Lemus Hudson Jr. for the one-run lead. Christian Delgado (1-0) picked up the win with 2.0 innings of scoreless relief with a strikeout, while Jaedeyn Edwards pitched the final 2.0 innings, allowing just three hits for his first career save. Kade Walker worked the first 5.0 innings in the start, allowing two runs off of two hits with four strikeouts.
Torres finished the day 2-for-4 with three RBI, while Reed, Hudson, and Diego Melendez each picked up a hit each.
