MONTGOMERY, Ala.| After two game delays, the Jackson State softball team finally got a chance to open play in the HBCU Softball Classic.The Tigers split day one's matchups falling to South Carolina State and defeating Alcorn State.Â
Game 1- SCSU,7Â JSU, 4Â
Jhordyn Dyer went 1 for 3 with two RBIs, but Jackson State still came up short in its first game on Friday, and suffered defeat at the hands of South Carolina State, 7-4.
Brooklyn Morris (1-2) took the loss in the circle for Jackson State after pitching .
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Trailing 4-0, Jackson State (4-5) first put runs on the board in the sixth inning.
- JSU's offense started clicking and put up four runs, including a two-run single off the bat of Dyer.
- South Carolina State then scored three times over the remaining one inning to break the tie and grab the 7-4 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Jackson State's highest scoring inning was the sixth, when it pushed four runs across.
- Gant and Morris faced 30 South Carolina State hitters in the game, allowing seven ground balls and seven fly balls while striking out four.
- The Tigers drew four walks from South Carolina State pitching.
- Dyer led JSUÂ at the plate, going 1 for 3 with two RBIs.
- South Carolina State was led offensively by L. Morlu, who went 3 for 3 with three RBIs.
- A. Dent led the Bulldogs pitching staff, throwing seven innings of four-run ball.
Game 2- JSU, 5 Alcorn State, 3
The Jackson State softball team rallied to score three runs in the seventh inning and walked it off on
Meah Almaraz's three-run home run off of C. Olison to pick up the 5-3 victory over Alcorn State  Braves Saturday evening.
Addison Jennings (1-0) got the win out of the bullpen for Jackson State . The right-hander went three shutout innings without giving up a hit.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Trailing 3-0, Jackson State (5-5) first put runs on the board in the fifth inning.
- The Tigers plated two runs off of Alcorn State pitching, one of which was driven in on a run-scoring double off the bat of Zaria Keyes.
- JSU kept its deficit in check, holding Alcorn State scoreless before scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh to claim victory, walking it off on Almaraz's three-run homer off of Olison.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Almaraz picked up three base knocks in the game and went 3 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs for Jackson State.
- Jackson State's highest scoring inning was the seventh, when it pushed three runs across.
- Four Tigers had multiple hits in the ballgame.
- The Tigers out-hit the  Braves at an 11-5 clip.
- JSU's pitchers limited Alcorn State to just 1-for-9 (.111) with runners in scoring position, while facing 28 Alcorn State hitters in the game, allowing 13 ground balls and seven fly balls and striking out one.Â
- Alcorn State was led offensively by Y. Acevedo, who went 1 for 3 with a double.
- Olison led the  Braves pitching staff, throwing 6.2 innings of five-run ball.

The Tigers will conclude play in the HBCU Softball Classic with two matchups against Bluefield State (10 a.m.) and Claflin (3 p.m.).
