JACKSON, Miss. | Jackson State closed out the weekend with its second win, defeating UNC Asheville 6-5 on Sunday afternoon at Braddy Field.
Jackson State (7-6) used a five-run fifth inning to pull away before holding off a UNC Asheville rally late - including a pair of runs in the sixth to pull within the final margin. The Tigers pounded out 10 hits in the win led by Ledy Alvarez who finished 3-for-3 with a pair of runs scored, an RBI, and a walk; while Pierre Cabral finished 2-for-3 with a run scored and a walk. Meanwhile, Tyree Reed added a pair of RBI for the Tigers.
Jayden Lopez (2-0) picked up the win in the start logging 5.1 innings and allowing five runs on seven hits with five strikeouts. Christian Delgado worked 2.0 innings in relief allowing three hits with a pair of strikeouts, while Talmadge Davis came on to log 0.1 innings. Darius Damper picked up his first save of the season working the final 1.1 innings of scoreless relief, recording a strikeout.
