ATLANTA, Ga. | Jackson State had its season come to a close in the Pepsi SWAC Basketball Championships presented by Buick, falling 70-60 to No. 2 seed Florida A&M at the Gateway Center Arena on Wednesday night.
Jayme Mitchell Jr. led Jackson State with 19 points, converting on 7-of-11 shots from the field including four three-pointers. He was joined in double figures by Devin Ree with 11 points and seven rebounds, while Dorian McMillian added 11 points off the bench. Delyle Williams finished with 10 points, eight rebounds, and five assists in the loss.
The two teams traded the lead throughout much of the first half with Florida A&M taking a 33-30 lead with just over 12 seconds remaining. However, Williams drove to the basket for Jackson State, drawing a foul and hitting one of two free throws with just 4.9 seconds remaining. The ensuing inbounds pass was deflected and Mitchell who hit a three-pointer from the top of the key as the buzzer sounded to give Jackson State a 34-33 lead at the break. The Tigers held the lead in the second half before Florida A&M was able to grab the lead with 8:51 remaining, holding on to it for the remainder of the game.
Jackson State, already playing without Daeshun Ruffin, lost Jalen Tatum just a couple of minutes into the game on Wednesday night. They ended the night shootingÂ
Jackson State finished the night 33.9 (19-of-56) percent from the floor and 32.0 (8-of-25) percent from beyond the arc. They also finished the night shooting 60.9 (14-of-23) percent from the free throw line. Meanwhile, Florida A&M finished the night shooting 39.3 (24-of-61) percent from the floor and 27.3 (6-of-22) percent from beyond the arc. The Rattlers also shot 84.2 (16-of-19) percent from the free throw line.Â
Antonio Baker led four Florida A&M players in double figures with 14 points.

Jackson State finished the first half shooting 37.9 (11-of-29) percent from the floor and 40.0 (6-of-15) percent from beyond the arc, while also shooting 75.0 (6-of-8) percent from the free throw line. Meanwhile, Florida A&M shot 35.5 (11-of-31) percent from the floor and 33.3 (4-of-12) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 87.5 (7-of-8) percent from the free throw line.
The Tigers shot 29.6 (8-of-27) percent from the floor and 20.0 (2-of-10) percent from beyond the arc, while also shooting 53.3 (8-of-15) percent from the free throw line. Meanwhile, Florida A&M finished the second half shooting 43.3 (13-of-30) percent from the floor and 20.0 (2-of-10) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 81.8 (9-of-11) percent from the free throw line.
