BELLEVUE, Wash. | Jackson State used a pair of home runs to win the first game of the series, 5-1 over Seattle at Bannerwood Park on Friday night.
Jackson State (8-7) jumped on top early with a three-run home run by Pierre Cabral in the first inning before a solo home run by Diego Melendez put the game out of reach in the top of the fifth inning. The Tigers added another run on a bunt single from Robert Tate Jr. in the top of the eighth inning.Â
The Tigers collected 11 hits on the day with Tate finishing 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI, while Tyree Reed finished 2-for-4 with a run scored. Kade Walker (3-1) picked up the win, working 6.0 innings in the start allowing just one run on three hits, while Jaedeyn Edwards and Derek Arrocha worked the final three innings of scoreless relief, combining for six strikeouts.
