JACKSON, Miss. | Jackson State walked off Florida A&M 5-4 on a two-run single by Diego Melendez in the bottom of the 11th inning to take game one in its Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) series at Braddy Field on Friday night.
Jackson State led 1-0 until the top of the eighth inning when Florida A&M (15-16, 10-3 SWAC) tied the game at 1-1 before erupting for three runs in the top of the 11th inning to take a 4-1 lead. However, Jackson State (16-18, 6-7) answered in the bottom half of the inning when Edwin Lemus Hudson Jr.singled through the right side to score Hederick Torres and Tyree Reed to trim the deficit to one at 4-3. Following a line-out by Robert Tate Jr., Melendez singled through the right side to score Parker Winfield from third and Isaac McClenty from second for the win.
Melendez finished 3-for-6 with a run scored and pair of RBI, while Reed finished 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.
Kade Walker (5-3), the final of five pitchers, picked up the win working the final 2.0 innings. Talmadge Davis started and logged 4.2 innings allowing just three hits with three strikeouts, while Jaedeyn Edwards went 2.0 innings of scoreless relief with five strikeouts. Derek Arrocha went 2.0 innings allowing one run on one hit with three strikeouts.

- 11th inning (top) - Ethan Miller homered down the lf line, RBI (2-2 BKBS). Caden Kresak singled to shortstop, advanced to second on the throw (1-2 KBF); William Brown advanced to third, scored on an error by ss. Justen Crews singled through the left side, advanced to second on an error by lf (0-0); Kresak advanced to third, scored on the throw, unearned; Florida A&M 4-1.
- 11th inning (bottom) - Hudson singled through the right side, 2 RBI (2-1 KBB); Torres scored, unearned; Reed scored. Melendez singled through the right side, 2 RBI (2-1 BBK); Payton Chace Boines advanced to second; McClenty scored, unearned; Winfield scored, unearned; Jackson State 5-4.
