NEW ORLEANS, La. | Jackson State women's tennis team is headed back to the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Championship match after a 4-1 victory over the No. 5 Florida A&M Rattlers on Saturday afternoon, after a clinching win by
Helen Hernandez.
Helen Hernandez delivered the final blow to the Rattlers in a three-set thriller to send the Tigers to their second straight SWAC Championship. Jackson State also picked up singles wins from senior
Isabella Benavides, who defeated Sydney Brantley at number four, and
Victoria Linkovski, who defeated Reagan Harris. Benavides, a First Team All-SWAC selection, won her match by a 6-1, 6-2 decision, while Linkovski, the SWAC Newcomer of the Year, won her match with a 6-3, 6-4 decision.
Hernandez began the day with a 6-1 win alongside Linkovski in doubles play.
Tiara Alvarez and
Daniela Tovar secured the doubles point after their 6-4 win over Gabrielle Pierce and Harris at number three.
