ITTA BENA, Miss. | Tyree Reed, Diego Melendez and Hederick Torres homered, but it wasn't enough as Jackson State fell 13-11 to Mississippi Valley State in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) action at Magnolia Field on Saturday night.
Reed, who finished day 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI and walks, hit a two-run home run in the top of the second inning to give Jackson State a 4-1 lead; while Melendez hit a solo home run in the top of the third inning to give Jackson State (23-24, 13-13 SWAC) a 5-2 lead and extend his hitting streak to 19 consecutive games. However, Mississippi Valley State used a three-run fifth inning to tie the game at 5-all before a five-run fifth inning extended the lead to 10-6. Torres hit his first home run of the season in the top of the seventh inning to trim the deficit to 13-9, a one out two-run home run.
Melendez finished the night 3-for-3 with three runs scored and a pair of RBI, while Robert Tate Jr. finished 2-for-4 and Edwin Lemus Hudson Jr. finished 2-for-5.
Tyshon Patty also finished 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI.
