GULFPORT, Miss. | Jackson State used a balanced offensive attack and a complete-game performance in the circle to secure an 8-2 victory over Prairie View in an elimination game at the SWAC Softball Tournament on Wednesday morning at the Gulfport Sportsplex.
With the win, the Tigers stay alive in the tournament after producing 12 hits and drawing 12 walks in a dominant showing at the plate.
How It Happened
- Jackson State wasted no time getting on the board in the first inning, as Brooklyn Morris delivered an RBI single to bring home Ariana Murillo for an early 1-0 lead.
- Avelina Mclean singled to left field to advance two runners and score Jace Jackson in the top of he third.
- Meah Almaraz's single up the middle scored Ka'Liyah Gipson in the fourth to bring the score to 3-0.
- The Tigers continued to apply pressure throughout the game, scoring in fifth and sixth innings.
- Prairie View (27-19) was held scoreless through five innings before pushing across two runs in the sixth, highlighted by an RBI from Isabela Rodriguez.
- However, Jackson State's pitching staff limited further damage and quickly responded with insurance runs in the final frame.
- JSU broke it open with a three-run seventh beginning with triple from Jackson the brought Ariana Murillo home.
- Almaraz followed with a double to right field and Morris capped the inning with a double down the right field line to scor4e Almaraz bringing the Tigers lead to 8-2.
