LAFAYETTE, La. | The Jackson State volleyball team showed resilience and determination Saturday afternoon, pushing Louisiana through a competitive four-set matchup at Earl K. Long Gym before falling 3-1 (20-25, 25-23, 21-25, 15-25).
The Tigers battled throughout the contest, collecting 45 kills and seven total blocks while continuing to fight for momentum against the Ragin' Cajuns.
Jackson State found its rhythm in the second set, responding to Louisiana's opening-set victory with a 25-23 win to even the match at one set apiece. The Tigers stayed within reach in the third set, but Louisiana edged ahead 25-21 to regain the match advantage.
The Tigers continued competing in the fourth set, but Louisiana closed out the contest with a 25-15 decision.
Hope Briggs led Jackson State offensively with 13 kills on 26 attempts, recording an impressive .462 hitting percentage. Shelby Zanders added 10 kills without committing an attack error, finishing with a team-best .526 hitting percentage.
Parker Featherstone contributed six kills, while Sophia McKenzie recorded eight kills and seven digs. Ryleigh Davis paced the Tigers with 22 assists, helping facilitate the Jackson State attack.
Defensively, Giannelle Asomani led the Tigers with 18 digs, while Zanders contributed four total blocks. Jackson State also received contributions from Naija Gadis, who recorded 15 assists, and Maya Reeves, who added six digs.
