STERLING, La. | The Jackson State men's and women's cross country teams competed Friday at the Warhawk Invitational, hosted by ULM at the Sterlington Sports Complex.

The men's team finished second with 58 points, placing four Tigers in the top 10. Freshman Ryan Achau recorded his second consecutive individual victory in as many meets, clocking 14:59.41 in the men's 5K. Achau was named the SWAC Men's Newcomer of the Week following his first-place finish at the MC Opener earlier this month.

Sophomore Duncan Koima followed Achau with a fourth-place finish, crossing the line in 15:40.78 as one of just five runners to break the 16-minute mark. Godfrey Kimutai and Collins Kibet also finished inside the top 10, recording times of 16:02.30 and 16:06.83, respectively.

Rounding out the Tigers' scoring five were Derrick Eskridge (20:06.58) and Levy Russell III (20:09.49), who finished 41st and 42nd, respectively.

On the women's side, Jackson State finished fourth with 82 points, placing two Tigers in the individual top 10. Lorine Jelagat led the Tigers with a seventh-place finish, crossing the line in 19:59.85.

Freshman Sya Bolden followed closely behind, finishing ninth overall with a time of 20:15.65. Rounding out the Tigers' scoring were Joan Koech in 21st (21:30.57), Karina Griffin in 23rd (21:32.73), Kimani Tindal in 27th (23:46.29), and Kaylin Jackson in 29th (24:24.08).

Jackson State returns to action Saturday, Oct. 3, when the Tigers travel back to Louisiana for the Nicholls XC Invitational in Thibodaux. The men's four-mile race is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. CT, followed by the women's 5K at 8:30 a.m.
