Khalill Spencer

Khalill Spencer was named the Director of Basketball Operations at Jackson State University in June 2022. Within an 11-month period, Head Coach Mo Williams promoted Spencer to Assistant Coach in May 2023, making him one of the youngest assistant coaches in NCAA Division I basketball.

Even at a young age, Spencer is well known within the profession, having forged personalized relationships and contacts around the country. His most notable attributes are his passion for the sport, his contagious high energy level, and his relatable relationship with players.

A native of Memphis, Tenn., Spencer previously coached at Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Ark., from 2020 to 2022. His coaching experience at Henderson State helped to groom him for his current duties at Jackson State, including player development, recruiting, scouting and overall logistics and operations.

Prior to launching his coaching career, Spencer was a stellar basketball player on the high school, community college and senior college levels.

At Booker T. Washington High School in Memphis, Spencer scored over 1,000 points and earned All-District, All-City and Best of Preps honors for four consecutive years. He holds the scoring title record with 38 points in the former Penny Hadaway Hoop-Fest Classic (now called the Memphis HoopFest). He also cemented his name in the BTW history books, ranking third all-time in single-season scoring at a school which boasts Memphis legend Taurean “T-Head” Moy and former NBA player Antonio Burks.

Spencer signed to play college basketball with Tennessee State University after high school, but actually began his post-college at Southwest Tennessee Community College in Memphis. He led the team to a regular-season championship and conference tournament runner-up finish. He was awarded Best Leadership, Hustle Man of the Year and Co-Most Efficient Player of the Year. He ended the season with a Top 5 national ranking in field goal percentage.

After earning an associate degree in political science at Southwest Tennessee in 2017, Spencer enrolled at Jackson State and played two seasons with the Tigers. He was named Sixth Man of the Year both years.

Spencer graduated from Jackson State in 2019 with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. He recently received a master’s degree in Sports Administration from Henderson State in 2022.

Spencer has one daughter, three-year-old Kimilah Faith Spencer.
