A former NAIA National Champion as a coach in 2013 with Georgetown College, Daniel Price joins the Jackson State women's basketball staff after a historic season with Marshall University. Price began with the Herd staff as an assistant coach for the 2023-2024 season after serving as the head coach at Simmons College of Kentucky. He helped lead the Thundering Herd to Sun Belt Conference Regular Season and Tournament Championships, which led to an NCAA Tournament Appearance. Price assisted with with player development as well as the Sunbelt and NCAA top ranked tenacious press defense. Marshall set a program record for most wins in a single season since the 1986-1987 season. The
NCAA Tournament appearance was only the second trip since the 1997 season. Marshall ranked second in turnovers forced per game (24), third in steals per game
(13.2), and ninth in offensive rebounds per game (15.7).
As head coach of Simmons, under Price's leadership, the Lady Falcons soared to new heights, achieving a remarkable 17-10 record overall in his first season. Notably, they
clinched the NCCAA Mideast Regional Championship and made history with their first-ever appearance in the NCCAA National Tournament Final Four. Along the way, the
team embarked on an impressive 10-game winning streak and secured top-ten rankings in multiple statistical categories per game, including scoring, field goal percentage,
three-point field goal percentage, free throw percentage, opponent free throw percentage, offensive rebounds per game, turnover margin, assist/turnover ratio, blocked shots, and steals per game.
In addition to his duties as a women's basketball coach, Price has experience in all realms of athletics and community, having served as the Community Relations Director for Big Brothers Big Sisters in Kentuckiana. Before becoming the head coach at Simmons College, Price was also the assistant athletic director for development at Kentucky State
University from 2015-18. As the assistant athletic director for development at Kentucky State University, Price spearheaded numerous initiatives to enhance visibility, including securing a Nike deal for the athletic program, the first in HBCU history, and leading efforts to upgrade facilities such as the press box and fencing for the baseball field, as well as introducing
the Thorobreds Sports Network, the first live streaming network in school history. Price's vision and leadership resulted in an 84% increase in visibility through all platforms and
paved the way for the logo change for the Thorobreds. With determination and an unyielding commitment to his passion for helping young
athletes, Coach Price made a pivotal decision during the 2018-19 season to step away from the world of collegiate sports to focus on his non-profit organization, Overtime Performance Skills Development (OTP). Over the years, Price and OTP have transformed the lives of more than 125 student athletes, guiding them toward scholarships at every level of collegiate basketball, and nurturing their dreams of playing at the professional level and obtaining academic degrees.
No stranger to winning, Price was instrumental in leading the University of Cumberland to a national tournament appearance and a Mid-South Conference tournament title,
culminating in a commendable 20-12 record. Price's expertise in player development has been apparent, developing notable leaders including current head men's coach Matt
Daniels and Associate Head Men's Basketball Coach Flynn Clayman of High Point University, both of whom went on to have successful careers in professional basketball overseas.
A native of Jackson, Mississippi, Price brings a reputation for developing players and a formidable defensive mindset, which he has named "Inferno," a strategy that heats up
opponents, forcing them to play faster than they are used to, resulting in turnovers.
