LaShonda Cousin enters her fifth year in the Jackson State women's basketball program, her third as a full-time assistant after spending her first two seasons as a graduate assistant.

Cousin has been instrumental in the success of the program, playing an integral part in three consecutive Southwestern Athletic Conference regular season titles, two SWAC Tournament Championships, and back-to-back trips to the NCAA Tournament. 

During this time, the program has had six student-athletes earning First Team All-SWAC honors, and three named to the second team, producing both a WNBA Draft Pick (Ameshya Williams-Holliday) and an U.S. Olympian (Alexis Roberts in Deaflympics). In the classroom, the program had a cumulative 3.08 GPA during this past season.

Cousin earned her Masters of Science in Sports Science after her time as a graduate assistant from Jackson State. Before JSU, she played collegiate basketball at Meridian Community College where she earned her Associates of Arts and Sciences before transferring to Mississippi State University where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology.
