Box Score JACKSON – The Jackson State women's basketball team dominated Millsaps College with an 88-38 victory Saturday afternoon in a non-conference game at the Lee E. Williams Athletic and Assembly Center.
JSU improved to 3-5 and Millsaps fell to 7-2.
"The first few games that we played and lost, we were so uptight, that we weren't really playing together," said JSU head coach
Tomekia Reed. "We have taken a different route and the girls have been really positive, and we needed a win like this to get us going in the right direction."
There were four standouts that scored in double digits.
Sophomore guard
D'Asia Mitchell dropped a game-high of 17 points and ran off with two steals. The Natchez, Mississippi native was efficient from beyond the arc, converting 5-of-9 3-point attempts.
Junior forward
Marneisha Hamer scored 15 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the field.
Senior guard
Christina Ellis scored 13 points and added three assists. The San Diego, California product also recorded a pair of steals.
Sophomore power forward
Antionette Womack added 10 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the floor.
For the game, the Lady Tigers shot 54.7 percent (35-of-64) from the field.
As a team, JSU converted 9-of-10 free-throw attempts.
The Lady Tigers forced the Lady Majors into 31 turnovers, while JSU only turned the ball over 13 times.
The Blue and White travel to Las Vegas next week with games against Akron and Illinois-Chicago.
