Southern Narrowly Defeats Jackson State

JACKSON – Junior Marneisha Hamer dropped a game-high 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds, but Southern narrowly defeated the Lady Tigers 76-74 Monday evening in Southwestern Athletic Conference action at the Lee. E Williams Athletic and Assembly Center.

After the second week of SWAC play, JSU is 5-10 overall and 1-3 in the SWAC. Southern improves to 8-8 and 3-1 in the conference.

The match-up saw 13 lead changes and 12 ties and went to the final whistle. The Jaguars scored with two seconds remaining to secure the final outcome.

Senior Jasmine Redmon scored 13 points and converted 4-of-9 attempts from the field. The Sacramento, California native added four rebounds and picked up three steals.

Junior Kaisah Lucky added 12 points and went 8-of-9 at the free-throw line.

Senior Chelsea Causey scored 10 points and hauled in seven boards.

For the game JSU shot 48.8 percent (21-of-43) from the field. The Lady Tigers forced 26 turnovers, which JSU turned into 31 points.

The Lady Tigers return to the hardwood Saturday at Prairie View A&M and next Monday at Texas Southern.
