Kaisah Lucky scored a game-high 20 points as Alabama A&M squeaked past Jackson State 58-55 Saturday afternoon in the SWAC opener for both programs.
As a team JSU (4-8, 0-1 SWAC) shot 37 percent (17-of-46) from the field and connected on 17-of-25 free throw attempts. The Lady Tigers' defense held AAMU (6-6, 1-0 SWAC) to 35 percent (19-of-53) shooting from the floor.
JSU proved to be dominant in the paint and outrebounded AAMU 40-36, including a 32-25 on the defensive boards.
Junior
Marneisha Hamer dropped 10 points to go with a game-high six rebounds. The Memphis native also handed out a pair of assists.
Sophomore
D'Asia Mitchell added six points, both of which were three-pointers, while sophomore
Antionette Womack scored five points and grabbed five rebounds.
Senior
Jasmine Redmon and sophomore
J'Niya Tallie each added five points.
The Lady Tigers turn their attention to Monday for a conference bout at Alabama State. Tip is set for 5:30 p.m.
