Tigers Slip in Rainy Matchup to Lady Panthers

JACKSON, Miss. -
The Jackson State soccer team took on the Prairie View A&M Panthers this afternoon in conference play at the JSU Soccer Field.

In what turned out to be a wet and muggy contest, the visiting Prairie View A&M Panthers were the first of the two teams to find themselves on the scoreboard first.

In the 25th minute of play, the Panthers Ashley Chela found the back of the net to quickly put her team on top by a score of 1-0.

The Tigers were able to hold the Panthers for the next 20 minutes of the contest before the bottom of the clouds fell out of the sky, delaying the contest for roughly 25 minutes.

Upon returning to the field, the Panthers took their 1-0 lead into halftime.

Prairie View outshot JSU 5-2 at the break. Both teams returned to a soggy field after the intermission, yet both teams quickly were able to get a few shots off on the other team, with little results.

Midway through the second half, the Tigers continued to trail by a one, 1-0 with three total shots.

Despite the effort put into the match by the Tigers, it was the Lady Panthers that ultimately game out as the victor, winning by a final of 1-0.

With the loss the Tigers fell to 1-11 overall and 1-3 in SWAC play. The Blue and White return to the field on Sunday versus Texas Southern beginning at 1 p.m.

QUOTABLE
Dr. Ted Flogaites
"As a staff we are doing everything we can to improve the results on the pitch. Some days I think we are doing a very good job creating something new and other days, like today, we have a lot of questions to ask ourselves. We gave this match away, they have one goal on essentially one real shot and that's simply not good enough.  Our commitment level as a team fell short of what is necessary and that's my responsibility. We are left asking ourselves why we didn't show up to play and compete as a squad, and we can't use homecoming as an excuse.  I'm bitterly disappointed with myself for failing to get certain ideas and principles across to the team in a way that resonates first mentally and then translates into a higher commitment level during a match.  Today was a perfectly good opportunity to play and we squandered that, and in doing so threw away valuable points towards getting into the conference tournament. I'm not sure we realized the magnitude and significance of the match, and again, failing to do so falls on my shoulders."
